What the article says

Industrial Distribution’s 2026 Big 50 lists each distributor’s 2025 sales. W.W. Grainger leads at $17.9 billion, followed by Motion at $8.91 billion, Winsupply at $8.38 billion, Fastenal at $8.2 billion and Airgas at $8 billion. Core & Main ($7.6 billion) and White Cap ($6.8 billion) come next, and the list runs down to Mahar Tool Supply at $94 million at No. 50. The editors write that, instead of bearing down on acquisition targets alone, many distributors spent the year “reviewing organic growth opportunities, responding to pricing intelligence requirements, improving supply chain and logistics capabilities and investing in infrastructure.” Multiple companies highlighted their exploration of and spending on AI as they look to offset labor and cost pressures.

Why it matters at the top of the house

For a manufacturer that sells through distribution, this is the channel map. The list runs from $17.9 billion to $94 million, and one channel program rarely fits both ends. The question for a president is whether the product data, the price files and the co-op programs are built for a $17.9 billion partner or a $94 million one. Distributors that are spending on pricing intelligence and AI run on product data and price files, and those come from the manufacturer.
